Clinic before the earthquake

The clinic was completely destroyed in 1999

These photos illustrate the medical clinic and connecting bridge that was destroyed by the 1999 earthquake. The clinic was built in order to attend to the medical needs of both the population of Casa Guatemala Children’s Village (the children and staff) and the very poor surrounding Mayan communities. This clinic’s medical program and facilities have been forced to shut down until reconstruction can take place. This leaves the Mayan communities with no access to medical services, unless they are able to take a boat to town and pay for a bus to transport them over 100 kilometers to the nearest public facility.

Since they do not have this money, many of these people get sicker and even die. The Children’s Village has had to create a temporary clinic in part of their library while the funds for rebuilding takes place, straining resources even further.

Casa Guatemala needs your help to rebuild the clinic and re-establish these much-needed services to both the Children’s Village and the surrounding Mayan communities. Please contact us for more information on how you can help with this capital project.
